Everything on this site is free to read. The ideas are free to share. Please credit the byline when you excerpt, and link back when you can — a publication lives on the traffic of its friends.

Writing

• Comment with a name (an alias is fine). No accounts are required or offered for readers.
• Be as decent as you would be at the kitchen table. Harassment, hate, and targeted abuse are removed.
• No spam, no astroturfing, no paid posts. Five comments per fifteen minutes is the pace of conversation, not a speed limit for firehoses.
• You keep the rights to what you write. By posting, you give us a perpetual license to publish it on the site.
• Editors may remove any comment that is false and harmful, illegal, or unsafe, and they may suspend repeat offenders.

The Site Itself

• The site is provided "as is," in the spirit of the commons — useful, maintained, and imperfect like everything human-made.
• We reserve the right to change, pause, or retire the site; the dispatches, in the meantime, are public record.
• Dispatches cite their sources. If a source changes or a fact is corrected, we correct the record and date the correction.
